Yes that rather was the best ever, wasn’t it?
must. reblog. infinitely.
A well turned joke, that is.
“And this time we’re going to see it to the bitter end! Or lager end.”The World’s End (2013) (x)
Do we really have to use racial-slurs when we mention white people?
I’m not going to get into the “reverse-racism” debate, but come on. Its 2013. While a lot of people might not consider “cracker” to be a slur, its just…tacky. And tactless. And tasteless. :| For real.
Can we have an intelligent discussion on race and racial politics and discrimination without stooping to name-calling, finger-pointing, and mudslinging?
Can we act like the adults we want to be treated as instead of regressing to 2nd grade and using issues as a chance to “get them” ?
I hate “Us vs Them” mentalities because its divisive. Whereas intersectionality is absolutely a thing, this falls under the “COMMON SENSE/HOW TO BE A DECENT PERSON” banner.
- You hate it when “they” generalize. So dont do it.
- You rage when “they” use racial slurs or slanderous language: Dont do it to them.
- You “demand” respect for being “oppressed”, scream for your viewpoint to be heard, yet what you fail to realize is that there’s a time for pettiness and there’s a time to actually accomplish something. Which one do we feel like doing today? Because when you use language like that you essentially invalidate everything you have said, will say, and want to say from that moment onward: under the “ignorant assbutt” clause.
When was the last time you took a white person who said “nigger” seriously? Go on. I’ll wait.
“BUT ITS NOT THE SAME THING, CRACKER ISN’T A SLUR, Y-“
IT DOES NOT MATTER.
IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO LISTEN TO YOU HERE ARE THE RULES
- PUT THE ISSUES BEFORE YOUR FEELINGS.
- PUT THE ISSUES BEFORE YOUR FEELINGS.
- STOP USING WORDS JUST TO “GET” THEM, AND DONT SAY YOU’RE NOT TRYING TO BECAUSE THAT’S THE ONLY REASON YOU SAID IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
- ACT LIKE YOU HAVE SOME GOTDAMN SENSE.
- SEE STEPS 1-4 AND REPEAT AS NEEDED.
Some white people might not care. And I am fully aware of power-dynamics, any cries of “privilege” you want to throw at me:
But the fact of the matter is that when you get it in your mind that “____ is an oppressor because they’re _____, and that means I can say whatever I want and it wont REALLY mean anything LOL”
^-That is when you decide: “fuck actually trying to reach an understanding. Fuck confronting the issue, discussing the facts, and promoting a discussion between us. I WANT TO MAKE THEM FEEL BAD SO THEY HAVE SOME SEMBLANCE OF WHAT ITS LIKE FOR ME, FOR THE LULZ”
Here’s a fun thought. Maybe if you stopped being so entitled, maybe if you stopped believing in establishing a double-standard [“I’m allowed to be racist to white people, because you cant be racist to white people, but if a white person is racist to me back that makes them a shit-stain”]. More people would listen.
“I DO NOT HAVE TO BE NICE TO MY OPPRESSORS, I AM NOT GOING TO CODDLE PEOPLE WHO’RE OPPRESSING ME”
YOU STUPID FUCK.
IF YOU REALLY BELIEVE IN POWER DYNAMICS, DONT YOU REALIZE THIS IS A GAME?
DONT YOU REALIZE THAT YES: YOU HAVE TO BE CIVIL WHEN IT COMES TO DISCUSSIONS IF YOU EVER WANT WHAT YOU GO THROUGH TO BE MET WITH MORE THAN AN EYE-ROLL?
It falls to you to put your cause above your emotions. Otherwise they WILL be used to discredit you.
You must humanize yourself to “them”. You must gain empathy.
why do you think gay marriage is taking off? Its not because the LGBT circle is winning wars against straight armies overseas, I’ll tell you that right fuckin now.
Its because we’re gaining empathy from straight-people. Because (SPOILER ALERT/ TRIGGER WARNING: TRUTH) STRAIGHT PEOPLE RUN THE WORLD.
Get mad, get butthurt, get pissy in my inbox all you want to, but thats a damn fact. Throwing a tantrum wont change it.
People in power make the rules. If you are “oppressed”, then that means you are subject to those rules. So I dont know who the fuck told you that you didn’t have to be “nice” to the people who could make a law tomorrow and decide to execute you on principle, but they lied to your dumbass something FIERCE.
UNTIL there is equality, you have to play the game to get it. And sometimes that means sacrificing your own feelings for the bigger picture. Sometimes that means biting your tongue. Sometimes that means presenting things on a level most people will empathize with.
That’s just. The way. It is.
If you want to change it: first you have to play the game.
Pretty much how I feel about gender politics these days. Or nationalism. Or religion v secularity. Or racism. Or trans* stuff. Or on British v American humour. Or anything said on YouTube in general. The most destructive idea we have in our lives is that of the Other.
